Memberships

Our members of the historical society are precious in so many ways. Many jump in to help with events, offer ideas and support, funnel new items to the museum for our exhibits, and offer financial support. For this, we have appreciation beyond words. The yearly funding provided by Mono County and the Town of Mammoth Lakes covers only a very small percentage of our annual employee expenses and museum overhead. Despite this limited civic funding, the museum has continued not only to survive, but to grow into a viable and beloved public institution. Membership dues are earmarked to support the operating costs of the museum. No funds go toward administration because our board is all a non-paid, volunteer effort.

There are several large projects to be undertaken at the Hayden Cabin. Repairing the chinking between the logs and repairing holes in the structures to make them weathertight, upgrading the electrical system to meet current standards, and landscaping renovation in order to protect the lovely setting so many people enjoy, just to mention a few. We will be looking at a variety of ways to generate the funds and support necessary for these projects. Becoming a member, or renewing your membership of the historical society will help us to reach our goals. All donations to the historical society are tax-deductible. With your help, we can continue to provide a high level of service to the community, as well as to properly maintain the important historic archives, buildings, and cultural assets that have been placed under our trust.
